Description

NGC1097 is a Seyfert Galaxy - meaning bright core and strong H, Ha, N and O lines on its spectrum. Its distance from us is about 45 Mio LJ and its diameter about 125.000 LJ. The bright structured center has a diameter of about 5000 Lj and in its center is a supermassive black hole with a huge mass of about 140Mio sunmasses. Its position is in the formation Fornax.  It has got two companion galaxies, NGC 1097A and B. One is nicely visible and the other one is very small.

I just read, that in that galaxy a new supernova was discovered a few days ago and luckily all those frames were taken after the SN appeared - so it is visible.  You can read that short announcement here: https://www.spektrum.de/alias/wunder-des-weltalls/supernova-in-ngc-1097/2180925
